The report was based on an analysis of LinkedIn data. The researchers determined the most in-demand skills based on three components: skills possessed by LinkedIn members who have been hired recently; skills possessed by LinkedIn members who have received recruiter InMails recently; and skills included in recent paid jobs listings on LinkedIn.

The most in-demand skills for marketing roles are Social media, management, digital marketing, communication, and strategy.

The most in-demand skills for sales roles are customer service, management, communication, marketing, and leadership.

Across all business functions, the most in-demand skills on LinkedIn are management, communication, customer services, leadership, sales, project management, research, analytical expertise, marketing, and teamwork.

The most in-demand skills for engineering roles are JavaScript, Java, SQL, Python, and CSS.

The most in-demand skills for IT roles are management, SQL, Microsoft Office, project management, and analytical expertise.
